Garnet Aukerman

Former Hastings resident, Garnet Doris Aukerman, 90, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at The Monarch House, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, October 1, 2016; 10:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings with Rev. Marcus J. Mackay officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund. Visitation will be Friday, September 30, 2016; 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

This beautiful life began in Blue Hill, Nebraska on November 2, 1925, born to Sophia & Barney Buss, the second of four children. She attended parochial school and graduated with honors. Post graduation she worked for Hastings Telephone Company. During this time she met William Leroy Aukerman, fell in love and they were married on February 16, 1947. They were blessed with two children, Michelle Lee and Timothy William.

Garnet enjoyed working for Doctors Don Kingsley and Don Kingsley, Jr. Her accounting skills led to a job opportunity with The Foote Clinic. After many years in the medical field she changed her career path when employed at T-L Irrigation. When she retired, Garnet and Roy were blessed to spend time together. They traveled to the east coast, the west coast, to Canada and Hawaii. They managed to keep busy and enjoy the company of family and friends at their whim. Garnet was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church. She gave of herself to serve with time and talents. She taught Sunday school, helped in the office, and for many years assisted with accounting duties.

A few years after Roy's passing, she moved into College View. Here she was cared for in a loving way - and shared her love with those around her. She will be remembered and missed by many.

Garnet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Leroy Aukerman; son, Tim Aukerman; brother, Barton Buss; and sister, Nila Earsom.
