Gary Kent, Jr.

Hastings resident Gary L. Kent, Jr., 60, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Hastings, NE.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Kathy Uldrich officiating. The family has requested casual attire if attending services. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be designated at a later date. Visitation is 9-8 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Gary was born June 7, 1957, in Hastings, NE to Gary L. Sr. & Roberta (Sealey) Kent. He attended Harvard High School. Gary served in the U.S. Marines from July 9, 1974 to January 7, 1977. He married Laura Taylor on August 8, 2012, in Sturgis, SD.

Gary was employed by Gavilon Fertilizer in Hastings. He was very involved with archery and volunteered his time helping with kids’ archery. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for 32 years. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, hunting deer and turkeys, and bow fishing. On hunting trips to Canada, he shot three black bears with his bow.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Gary L. Kent, Sr.; brother, Virgil Kent; and step-father-in-law, Robert Thaut.
