Gene Young

Hastings resident, Gene Young, 90, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Mary Lanning HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Private family graveside services with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Gene was born March 19, 1922 in Hastings, Nebraska to Elmer & Lydia ( Reiber) Young. He graduated from Hastings High School and attended Hastings College. Gene served in the Navy from August 13, 1942 until October 22, 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He flew SS missions in an F 6 F Drummond Hellcat from the USS Bunker Hill during WWII. Gene married Donna Price in 1943 and later they divorced. Gene was a retired Hastings Fire Fighter and served as acting Chief. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling all 50 states. In 1993 he married Katie Warneking.

Gene Young was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leland Young.
