George Konen

George N. Konen, 100, died at Heritage Care Center, Red Cloud, Nebraska, on Saturday, September 19, 2009.

Rosary will be Tuesday, September 22, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at Assumption Catholic Church, Mass of Christian Burial will follow the rosary with Father Thomas Au officiating. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Assumption, Nebraska. Visitation will be Monday, September 21, 2009; 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. at Butler Volland funeral home in Hastings and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church or Assumption Catholic Church.

George was born in rural Adams County near Juniata on December 22, 1908, the son of Peter & Anna (Weber) Konen. He graduated from Juniata High School in 1927. He married Eleanor Hoffman in Assumption Church, near Roseland on September 22, 1936, and she preceded him in death on September 15, 2005. He worked as a surveyor in the construction of Kingsley Dam near Ogallala. He farmed in rural Adams County from 1942 until he retired in 1973, moving to Hastings. He and his wife worked as Foster Grandparents, reflecting their special love for children. Friends and family will always remember the enjoyment he found in a good game of ten point pitch. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

George N. Konen was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eleanor (Hoffman) Konen, infant son James Albert Konen on December 25, 1941, infant great-grandson Derek Anthony Parr, brothers, Wendell and Wilfred Konen, sisters, Regina Kloke and Evelyn Roth.
