Gerald Frerichs

Hastings resident, Gerald F. Frerichs, 70, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015; 10:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Royal Family Kids Camp or First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. There will be no viewing at the church.

Gerald was born April 26, 1944 in Hastings, Nebraska to Floyd & Lois (Berndt) Frerichs. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1962 and served with the Army Reserves. Gerald married Vicky Samuelson on September 26, 1965 at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. He worked at Sherman Service Center, began farming in 1963, and was co-owner of Downrange Manufacturing and F & K Enterprises. Gerald was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, District 15 School Board for 12 years, volunteer fireman for Ayr Volunteer Fire Department for 34 years, past President of Juniata Cenex Board, and past Treasurer for Little Blue NRD Observers Board. Gerald received the Kiwanis Outstanding Farmer Award in 1980. He had a passion for farming, hunting, and fishing. His "Swede" children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Lois Frerichs; father-in-law and mother-in-law, LeRoy & June Samuelson; and grandson, Evan Franzen.
