Hastings resident, Gerald "Jerry" C. Gass, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Private graveside services will be Monday, June 4, 2012 in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Services will be Monday, June 4, 2012; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Book signing with closed casket will be Friday, June 1, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, June 2, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Mary Lanning Hospice.

Jerry was born November 17, 1931 in Hastings, Nebraska to Carl L. & Pauline M. (Rhodes) Gass. He graduated from Red Cloud High School and the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration. Jerry actively served with the U.S. Air Force from December 6, 1953 until November 21, 1956, and then he resigned his commission on June 15, 1968 with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He married Shirley Ellis on June 3, 1951 in Red Cloud. Jerry was associated with Ellerbrock-Norris Insurance. He was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church and was a deacon and elder. Jerry was a member of the Hastings Noon Rotary Club. He was involved in numerous civic organizations such as Junior Chamber of Commerce and Chamber of Commerce. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and doing projects around the house and yard.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marilyn Evans.
