Gerald Jacupke

Hastings resident, Gerald P. "Jerry" Jacupke, 87, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial Service will be Monday, May 13, 2013; 11:00 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Private family burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Sunday, May 12, 2013; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to NET/TV or Start Over Rover.

Mr. Jacupke was born November 3, 1925, to Paul and Dorothy Jacupke in Leshara, Nebraska. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1942. He attended Midland College (Fremont, NE) in 1942. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall of 1943. He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1944 until June of 1946. After leaving the military he attended UNL where he majored in physical education and graduated in 1948. He lettered for the Husker football team in 1943, 1946, and 1947. Upon graduation he taught and coached at Osceola High School, Norfolk Junior College, and Fairbury High School. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co., Lincoln Equipment Co., and was in management at Werner Construction for thirty-five years. He retired in 2001 at the age of 75. He was appointed to the Board of Governors at Central Nebraska Technical College by Gov. J. James Exon. He was on the Board of Directors for the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce and the UNL Alumni Board of Directors. He received an Admiralship in the Nebraska Navy. He was on the steering committee for the C.T.C.C. Civil Technology program. In 1965, he obtained a pilot's license. He had a lifetime membership to Lochland Country Club; was a member of the Elks Country Club and the VFW.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon; son, Jay; granddaughter, Emily Barta; and brother-in-law, David Anderson.
