Gerald McCready

Hastings resident, Gerald L. "Jerry" McCready, 71, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Thursday, November 12, 2009; 11:00 A.M. at First Christian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. Judith Allen officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., with family present from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and 1 hour prior to service at First Christian Church. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church or Lied Transplant Center.

Jerry was born May 15, 1938 at his parents' home in Franklin County, Naponee, Nebraska to Roy & Elizabeth (Schimmels) McCready. His folks moved to Naponee when he was a baby and he grew up in Naponee. His dad died when he was five years old. He and his mother continued living in Naponee. He attended grade and high school at Naponee, graduating in 1956. After graduation, he started working at Boogaarts Store in Phillipsburg, Kansas. He married Pat Culwell on June 22, 1958 in Phillipsburg. He continued working at Boogaarts until they moved to Hastings, Nebraska in March 1962 to work at the Coop Fertilizer Plant until his retirement in 1998. He also had a saw sharpening business in his garage at his home in Hastings until his health declined in 1998. He was a member of the Eagles Club, and long time member of First Christian Church. Jerry will always be remembered as a kind hearted, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry McCready; one sister, Berniece Gruwell; two nephews, Kevin Perry and Jr. Pflieger; one grandson, Brandon Reddick; sister-in-law, Naomi Griffin; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick & Kathleen Culwell.
