Gerald M. "Jerry" Mousel

Assumption area resident Gerald M. “Jerry” Mousel, 85, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.    

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Assumption Catholic Church in Assumption with Father Corey Harrison officiating. Burial with military rites by Juniata American Legion will be at Assumption Cemetery in Assumption. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. with the family present 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Assumption Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Jerry was born on the family farm in Adams County, NE on May 31, 1938, to Ernest and Anna (David) Mousel. He graduated from Roseland High School in 1957. Jerry served in the Nebraska National Guard. He married Sharol R. Banks on February 17, 1962, in Phillipsburg, KS; she preceded him in death on December 9, 2020. 

Jerry was employed as a factory worker for Hastings Industries. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, a charter member of Harness Hustler’s Driving Club, 3^rd Degree Knights of Columbus, and south McDonald’s Breakfast Club. Jerry never knew a stranger, loved to drive his mules, and never missed a Silver Lake basketball game. His pride and joy was his eight-head hitch. He loved his family and never missed his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren’s activities. He will be missed by all.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharol R. Mousel; infant sister; and two stillborn grandchildren.
