Hastings resident, Gertrude E. Herbst, 96, of The Regency, 1235 North Laird, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her home.
Services will be Monday, July 2, 2007; 11:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Paul Knott officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to Berean Bible Church or Wycliff Bible Translators. Visitation will be Friday, 6pm-9pm, Saturday, 1pm-9pm & Sunday, 1pm-9pm with family present 2pm-4pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Herbst was born April 3, 1911 in Hastings, Nebraska to John & Anna M. (Ginter) Wagner. She accepted Christ as her Savior in 1939. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1929 and married David H. Herbst at the New York Avenue Congregational Church on June 23, 1933. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1980. They owned and operated Herbst Grocery from 1941 until 1981. She was a life long Hastings resident and a very active life long member of the New York Avenue Congregational Church, having served as president, secretary, and treasurer of the ladies aide and also served on the church board. She taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the Girl Scouts and was a scout leader. She was a pink lady at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and volunteered with the bloodmobile.
Mrs. Herbst was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; two brothers & spouses, Carl & Florence Wagner & Wilber & Marjorie Wagner; sister & Spouse, Mary Ann & Robert Ruble & an infant sister.
