Hastings resident Gib “Shorty” D. Burmood, 82, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019, at his home.
A reception will be held with light refreshments from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home with a Prayer Service to follow at 3 p.m. with Chaplain Damen Heitmann officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Shorty was born May 30, 1936, in Hastings, NE to Alvin “Doc” & Gladys (Smith) Burmood. He was employed at Johnson Cashway as a delivery driver and worked in the lumberyard for 50 years.
Gib was short of stature, yet large of heart and generosity. He was loyal to his family, friends, and workplace. Shorty had many hobbies. In addition to being a film buff, he loved driving sports cars, league bowling, attending state fairs, and building 5,000 piece Legos building kits.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin “Doc” & Gladys Burmood; and brother and sister-in-law, Darrel & June (Meyer) Burmood.
