Gilbert Katzberg

Prosser resident, Gilbert "Gib" A. Katzberg, 80, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at his home.

Services will be Friday, December 19, 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Juniata (Prosser) with burial following at Concordia Cemetery. Pastor Greg Volzke will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 17, 2014; 9:00 A.M.--5:00 P.M., Thursday, December 18, 2014; 9:00 A.M.-- 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 P.M.--8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Concordia Cemetery.

Gilbert was born on April 30, 1934 at the family farm near Prosser, Nebraska to Arthur & Etta (Dieken) Katzberg. He was baptized on May 5, 1934 and confirmed on March 21, 1948 at Christ Lutheran Church. Gilbert attended Prosser Elementary, Christ Lutheran Elementary, and Juniata High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in Germany and guarded the building of the Berlin Wall. After returning from Germany, he farmed with his family near Prosser. He married Danola Maryce Dow on June 16, 1962 at Christ Lutheran Church, to this union, two sons were born; Bernard and Jerome. They were married for 52 years. Gilbert was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and the VFW.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law; Darrell Dow & Melvin Dow.
