Hastings resident, Gladys B. Wassinger, 63, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee or to Start Over Rover. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014; 3:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Gladys was born November 8, 1950 in West Point, Nebraska to Leonard & Vera M. (Lutjen) Jahnke. She graduated from Beemer High School in 1969 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State College in 1973. She married Michael W. Wassinger on August 20, 1977 in York, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2013. They moved from York to Hastings in 1985. Gladys was an art teacher for the Hastings Public Schools at the Middle and Elementary level. She belonged to the Nebraska Art Teachers Association and was named its Art Teacher of the Year in 2002-2003. She was also a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Alpha Delta Gama, and Beta Sigma Phi. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and walking her dog.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael W. Wassinger.
