Hastings resident, Harold Gartner, 81, of 810 Sycamore, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Saturday, October 16, 2004; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Spomer & Pastor Frank Kerkemeyer officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Mr. Gartner was born December 26, 1922 in Holstein, Nebraska to Henry H. & Fannie (Janssen) Gartner. He served in the United States Army during WWII from February 3, 1943 until January 3, 1946. He was a truck driver and an anti-aircraft gunner, serving in England, France, Germany, Austria and Normandy. He married Milrae Albers on May 27, 1947 in Smith Center, Kansas. He worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in construction of bomb storage plants. He then worked for his brother-in-law's disposal business and later farmed at Giltner, Nebraska, moving to Ayr, Nebraska in 1965. He was a life long area resident and a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and V.F.W. He was a past member of Roseland Fire Department, Roseland School Board, Eagles and Knights of Phythias.
Mr. Gartner was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.
