Harold King

February 25, 1928 — August 14, 2002

Harold W. King, 74, of 1121 N. Colorado, died Friday, August 9, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska, with Chaplin Norvell Holtmeier officiating.

Harold W. King was born February 25, 1928 in Hastings, Nebraska to Charles & Helen (Corwin) King Wortman. He also lived in Omaha, Nebraska, Ruskin, Nebraska and Detroit, Michigan as a child. After moving back to Hastings, be worked at Skaggs Grocery Store. He served in the United States Navy during WWII from August 31,1945 to July 20, 1946, taking boot camp in San Diego, California and then at Subic Bay in the Philippines on the LSM 263. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. On October 12, 1947, he married Loretta Wilcox. They moved to Seattle, Washington where he worked for Safeway Grocery Store. In 1949, they moved back to Hastings where he was a radio announcer for K.H.A.S a short time. They then moved to Sidney, Nebraska in 1949 and worked at the Sioux Army Depot as supervisor of the Surveillance Work Shop until it closed. He transferred to Cornhusker Ammunition Plant in Grand Island, Nebraska until his early retirement when it closed. He worked a short time at Hastings Animal Research Center, Hastings Regional Center and Siddles Automotive. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adams County Genealogy Society, American Legion and a fifty year member of First United Methodist Church, all in Hastings, Nebraska.

Harold W. King was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Jesse Wortman.

Sister-in-law: Verda Wilcox - Colorado
Brother-in-law: Jay Wilcox - Oklahoma
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
