Harold McCoy

Hastings resident, Harold Eugene "Gene" McCoy, 88, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska after a long illness.

Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be Friday, September 29, 2017; 10:00 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Services will be Friday, September 29, 2017; 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. The family requests casual attire be worn to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2017; 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Gene was born September 26, 1929, in Hastings, Nebraska to Harold Edgar & Alberta (Wolfe) McCoy. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1947 and attended Hastings College for two years. Gene served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1949 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for an additional 6 years. He married Joyce E. Drohman on January 26, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Gene worked for the Naval Ammunition Depot, Dutton Lainson, ABC Electric, Delta Electric, and was electrical inspector for the City of Hastings for 20 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was a church elder, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and past President of ARC. Gene had many interests such as traveling, bowling, dancing, golfing, and race cars.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Ida and Sue.
