Former Hastings resident, Harold D. Rust, 76, of VA Nursing Care, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the VA Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be Monday, February 12, 2007; 1:30 P.M. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, February 10, 2007; Noon-9pm, Sunday, February 11, 2007; 1pm-9pm at the funeral home & Monday, February 12, 2007; 1 hr. prior at the church. Memorials-Family's Choice.
Mr. Rust was born June 10, 1930 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He graduated from Hastings High School, Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from October 2, 1951 until April 30, 1953. He was wounded and received the purple heart. He married Eleanor L. Polenske on September 20, 1953 in Kenesaw, Nebraska and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2005. He worked for Grace's Locksmith Service & was a typewriter repairman for Business Supply Company for 25 years. He retired, due to his health, to receive a heart transplant in 1994. He was a member of V.F.W. and a life member of D.A.V. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather and uncle.
Mr. Rust was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Isabella Hardesty and two brothers, Ed & Raymond Rust.
