Harold Shaw

Holstein resident, Harold D. Shaw, 71, of Holstein, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Monday, September 28, 2009; 10:00 A. M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery, Holstein, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 2009; 1 P.M. - 9 P.M. Sunday, September 27, 2009; 1 P.M. - 9 P.M. with family present 3 P.M. - 5 P.M. at the funeral home and Monday, September 28, 2009; one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Harold D. Shaw Memorial Fund.

Mr. Shaw was born November 4, 1937 in Hastings, Nebraska to John L. & Fern (Gangwish) Shaw. He graduated from Holstein High School in 1956 and played on the basketball team that won two state championships. The team went on to be inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame on September 25, 2005. He attended Hastings College where he was on the basketball team that played in a tournament in Kansas City. On June 1, 1958, he married Shirley Schukei at Wanda Zion Lutheran Church, Juniata, Nebraska. He was a lifelong Adams county resident, farmer and dirt contractor. He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska Land Improvement Contractor's Association and the Eagles. He was a past treasurer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a past member of the Lions, both in Holstein, Nebraska.

Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, John Shaw, sister, Marquerite Saylor and a son-in-law, Daniel Hoffman.
