Harold South

June 27, 1915 — January 10, 2015

Hastings resident, Harold D. South, 99, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Haven Home, Kenesaw, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Thursday, January 15, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at Second Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. David B. McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Second Presbyterian Church or Hastings American Legion Baseball.

Harold was born June 27, 1915 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Shorty & Myrtle (Miller) South. He attended Fairbury Schools. He married Mildred Madsen on September 20, 1947; she preceded him in death in July, 2014. Harold was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and served on various church boards in his earlier years. Mr. South worked at the Fairbury Windmill Company, construction of the Hastings Naval Administration Depot, Dalton's Gas Station, Schilling Oil Company, and retired from the Hastings City Street Department in 1980. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather - he loved his family. He attended many school activities that his granddaughters were participating in; was an avid gardener, and enjoyed reading a great deal. He was a loyal supporter of Husker football and volleyball. He very much enjoyed American Legion baseball and had an affinity with going out to eat fried chicken.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred South; and sister, Pauline Sadd.
