Harold Zubrod

Roseland resident, Harold L. "Zubie" Zubrod, 89, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Tuesday, November 18, 2014; 7:30 P.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 19, 2014; 10:00 A.M. both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Roseland with Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Roseland Cemetery, Roseland. Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church renovation fund or Roseland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 18, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to rosary and mass at the church.

Harold was born July 29, 1925 in Bladen, Nebraska to Frank & Caroline (Schifferns) Zubrod. He attended Roseland High School. Harold entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 during World War II and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1946. He married Arlene Heuertz on September 18, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland; she preceded him in death on November 18, 2005. Harold drove a gas truck for Sinclair and farmed for many years near Ayr. He began working at the Hastings Regional Center in 1957, retiring in 1988. He also drove a bus for Roseland Schools from 1960-1988. During this period he also owned and operated Zubies Sinclair Service in Roseland and Zubies Grocery Store in Assumption. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Roseland and Holstein American Legion Post 305.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene Zubrod; sister, Dolores Dieken; brother-in-law, Bob Hemberger; and an infant sister, Eileen.
