Harriett Johnson

Hastings resident, Harriett M. Johnson, 82, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at her residence.

A memorial service will be Monday, September 13, 2010; 1:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. David B. McCarthy officiating. Private inurnment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. There will be no visitation. A book signing will be held Sunday, September 12, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Robert L. & Harriett M. Johnson Scholarship at Hastings College.

Harriett was born September 17, 1927 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Ralph W. & Florence (Griffin) Barnett. She was educated in the Hastings Public Schools and graduated from Hastings College in 1981. She taught in elementary schools in the Hastings & Grand Island area. She, with her family, lived and farmed in the Hansen area much of her life. Harriett married Robert L. Johnson on May 28, 1948 in Hastings. She was an active member in 4-H Club work, First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter HT, Fish Fry and George Eliot book clubs.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Bill & Burton.
