Hastings resident, Helen A. Berg, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday, June 15, 2017; 10:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Helen was born May 17, 1943, to Peter P. "Pete" & Leta L. (Fred) VanCleave. She graduated from Sumner High School (SEM) in 1961. She worked in dress shops in Kearney and Lexington. On May 5, 1966, she married Lamont J. "Monte" Berg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. Together they moved from Grand Island, Nebraska to Loup City, Nebraska and in 1967 to Hastings, Nebraska.
On February 6, 1969, they became parents to Julia, their pride and joy, Helen became a stay-at-home mom. She was a longtime devoted and special member of the Faith Lutheran Church family where she did Bible study, communion cards, watered plants, Vacation Bible School, helped with funeral meals, sack lunches, Orphan Grain Train, and wherever they needed help. Helen's most important loves were being a wife, spending time with family and grandkids, doing yardwork, shopping, and having lunch with friends. She was a very good friend and neighbor to lots.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Raymond, Marvin, and Lynnie.
