Former Hastings resident, Helen M. Boehlke, 85, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at St. Francis Skilled Care, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 12, 2007; 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Lee Jirovsky officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Hospice or donor's choice. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 11, 2007; 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Thursday, 9 a.m. until noon at the funeral home, and 1 hr. prior to service at the church.
Mrs. Boehlke was born October 10, 1921 in Hastings, Nebraska to Frederick & Charlotte Metzer. She attended rural District #14 and graduated as Adams County Valedictorian. She graduated from St. Cecilia's High School in 1940 and attended Kearney State College. She taught in rural schools, worked at Steyer-Jensen Pastry Shop, Gamble Skogmo as a bookkeeper, and Hastings Utilities as a bookkeeper. In 1943, she married Marvin J. Boehlke. She was active in local and state garden clubs and served as district director of the State Garden Club. She resided in Hastings until 1994, moving to Grand Island. She attended St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Boehlke was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Harold and Francis Metzer.
