Lifelong Hastings area resident, Helen Ellen Grothen, 84, of 2340 W. 42nd, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at her home.
Burial will be Thursday, September 2, 2004; 10:00 A.M. in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska, gathering at Butler-Volland Funeral Home, 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. prior to burial. Services will be Thursday, September 2, 2004; 11:00 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Frank Kerkemeyer officiating.
Mrs. Grothen was born November 22, 1919 in Adams County, near Juniata, Nebraska to Jacob O. & Fulke Marie 'Mary' (Oltmanns) Theesen. She was baptized on January 18, 1920 in the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Denver Township, Adams County, Nebraska, by Pastor Goede and confirmed in the same church by Pastor Waldschmidt. She married Raymond R. Grothen on February 22, 1943 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was a homemaker and a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women and Modern Homemakers Club.
Mrs. Grothen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Arthur & Ernest Theesen and a sister, Martha Theesen Coulter.
