Helen Katzberg

Hastings resident, Helen A. Katzberg, 81, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, August 15, 2015; 10:30 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Mary Lanning Hospice or Zion Lutheran Memorial Fund. Visitation will be Friday, August 14, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Helen was born March 5, 1934 in Hastings, Nebraska to Albert & Hazel (Wisker) Martin. She was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings. Helen graduated from Hastings High School in 1952. She married Wayne Katzberg on July 18, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings. They moved to Mountain View, California when Wayne served in the U.S. Navy and moved back to Hastings in 1955. Helen worked at Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph as a switchboard operator and at the Masonic Temple. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a very simple, easy to please lady. Her time with family was special to her. She was a great cook and loved to sew. Helen enjoyed taking trips with her husband. She loved flowers and gardening, enjoyed going for walks, and loved being outside.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gwen Hadley; and great-grandson, Benjamin Diecker.
