Helen R. LaPorte

Hastings resident Helen R. LaPorte, 83, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at The Kensington, Hastings, NE.    

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 30, at Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene in Hastings with Pastor Krystal Kennard officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with family present Wednesday, November 29, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Lakeside Church of the Nazarene. Helen was born March 8, 1940, in Alexandria, NE to Vernon and Virginia (Vance) Freeman. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1958 and attended college for one year. Helen married James LaPorte on July 15, 1960; he preceded her in death in February 2019.

Helen worked as the activities director for Good Samaritan Village Independent Living for 26 years. She was a member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene where she was a very active member. Helen played the saxophone in multiple bands throughout her life and loved music. She volunteered at The Village Diner after she retired. Helen especially enjoyed spending time with her family.  

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James LaPorte; and sister, Dixie Monie.
