Former Hastings resident, Helen (Dominy) Owens, 90, of Marion, Iowa, died Saturday, July 21, at Northbrook Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Services will be Wednesday, July 25, 2007; 2:00 P.M. Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor John Curtiss officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 24, 2007; 1 P.M -9 P.M. with family present 7 P.M.- 9 P.M. & Wednesday, July 25, 2007; 9 A.M. until service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church or Crossroads.
Mrs. Owens was born March 9, 1917 in Adams County, Nebraska to Edward & Verna (Smith) Dominy. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1934. On May 29, 1939, she married Chester Owens near Hansen, Nebraska at her parent's home. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2001. They lived in Kenesaw, Nebraska from 1950 until 1972 when they moved to Hastings. She was a homemaker and worked at Bert's Pharmacy until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kenesaw American Legion Auxiliary for 54 years and an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also involved in the Hastings Community Theatre back stage & on stage. Her presence and short stories will be missed by family and friends.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Chester, three sisters, Dorothy Saddler, Alice Knudson Bierman & Marjorie Boontjer.
