Hastings resident, Herbert H. Galitz, 93, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017; 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Pastor Greg Lindenberger officiating. Burial with military rites by Wolbach American Legion will be Saturday, June 10, 2017; 3:00 P.M. at Sunrise Cemetery, north of St. Paul, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church to be designated to the Chancel Choir, the Bells, and Shrine Hospital for Prosthetics. Book signing will be Friday, June 9, 2017; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Herb was born to Henry Emil and Louise Anna Johanna (Schomburg) Galitz on March 14, 1924, at home in rural Nance County, Nebraska. Herb graduated from high school in 1941 and joined the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served with Merrill Marauders in the China-Burma-India Theater. After his discharge from the Army, he received GI training to become a mechanic.
On April 4, 1949, Herb married Dolores Jacobson and they had three children, Deb, Alan, and Brian. In 1954, Herb accepted a position with Baum Iron Company as a salesperson and the family first moved to Alliance, Nebraska and then to Red Cloud, Nebraska. In 1961, Herb accepted a position as a sales agent for State Farm and the family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. He retired from State Farm in 1991. Herb belonged to the Mason's, Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was active in the Hastings community and golf and fishing were his special pastimes.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents; and five siblings.
