Hastings resident, Howard Bruce Hogan, 84, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 in Sun City West, Arizona.
Services with Masonic memorial tribute will be Friday, April 8, 2011; 10:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 2011; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts Troop 200, National Kidney Foundation, or Masonic Lodge #50.
Howard was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 13, 1926 to Bruce L. & Julia (Planck) Hogan. He attended Benson High School in Omaha, Nebraska graduating in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 on Sea Plane Base, on the island of Saipan. After the war he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (1946-1950) graduating with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. On August 24, 1947 he married Alice M. Williams of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; his wife of 58 years preceded him in death in 2005. They came to Hastings, Nebraska in 1951 where Howard worked 36 years for Western Land Roller Company/Ingersoll-Rand in engineering and sales. Howard had many interests and served in several organizations: member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon and Elder; active in Overland Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America and honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in 1967; 50 year member of Hastings Masonic Lodge #50, Scottish Rite, Tehama Shrine Temple and Royal order of Jesters; American Society of Agricultural Engineers and honored as "Man of the Year" by the Nebraska section in 1974; past member of Vertical Turbine Pump Association; Hydraulic Institute; Nebraska Water Well Drillers Association; Nebraska Water Well Standards and Contractors Licensing Board; National Water Well Drillers Association; Nebraska State Irrigation Association; University of Nebraska College of Engineering Advisory Board; Board of Directors of Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District 1987-1989; past member of Lochland Country Club; Board of Directors of Nebraska Senior Golf Association serving as President in 1994 and in 2000; life member of University of Nebraska Alumni Association; member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Until his death he maintained homes in Hastings, Nebraska and Sun City West, Arizona. He had suffered from kidney issues for a number of years.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Alice Hogan.
