Imogene Turley

Hastings resident, Imogene Mae Turley, 96, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Requiem Eucharist will be Saturday, September 27, 2014; 10:00 A.M. at Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings, Nebraska with The Very Rev. Dean Catherine F. Scott officiating. Private family burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hastings Meals on Wheels Program and Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral.

Imogene was born November 16, 1917 in Silver Creek, Nebraska to Clayton & Mary (Charlton) Bump. After graduation from high school, she taught in local country schools. With the out-break of WWII, Imogene, along with her only sibling, Iona Bump, went to Lincoln to build bomber casings for the Air Force bomber fleet, while attending classes at the University. In 1946 she met and married Blain Curtis Turley, an accounting major at the University of Nebraska. Upon Blain's graduation they moved to Hastings in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1977. Imogene raised three daughters before becoming a secretary for Alcott Elementary school 1965 through 1994. Imogene continued with the Foster Grandparent Program until the age of 89.

Imogene was active in St. Marks, serving on the Vestry twice and holding the position of President of the Women twice. Teaching Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Imogene was a current member of Hastings Area Retired Teachers and PEO Chapter HT. She was a past member of several Garden Clubs, Bridge Clubs, YMCA and YWCA. She held offices in the Faculty Wives of Hastings College, Girl Scouts of America and Hastings JC's.

Imogene was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Blain.
