Hastings resident, Iola L. Kohout, 85, passed away with family by her side Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, July 7, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Nebraska Children's Home Society or Heartland Pet Connection. Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2017; 1:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Iola was born August 23, 1931, on a farm in Chase County, Nebraska to Otto & Christina (Koester) Belau. She married Emil A. Kohout on October 24, 1953; he preceded her in death on October 21, 2010.
Iola worked as a nanny until 1949, clothing store from 1949-1956, stay-at-home mom and worked in school activities 1956-1968, teacher's aide at Hawthorne Elementary for Hastings Public Schools from 1968-1980, and had a home-based business "House of Wooden Specialties" where they traveled to ten different states with their home crafts from 1980-2002. She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Iola enjoyed spending time making scrapbooks for her grandchildren.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil A. Kohout; daughter, Sandra Laible; and two brothers, Don Belau and Kermit Belau.
