Hastings resident Iona M. Fast, 89, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, NE.
Memorial Service is 10 a.m. Friday, August 16, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6-8 p.m.at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Iona was born August 8, 1930, to George & Hanna (Friesenburg) Kuhlman in Gothenburg, NE. She graduated from Gothenburg High School and attended Mary Lanning School of Nursing. Iona married William Henry Fast on October 22, 1950, in Hastings, NE; he preceded her in death on February 14, 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she served on the church council, Lutheran Women #1, and volunteered at Mary Lanning Hospital for many years as a Pink Lady. Iona had a magnificent doll collection.
Iona and Fred were in partnership with Paul, Bill, and Bob Fast in their business known as Fast Construction.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents, George & Hanna Kuhlman; husband, William Henry Fast; infant brother, Eugene Wayne Kuhlman; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Paul & Marie Fast; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Fred & Georgia Fast and Melvin & Rosemarie (Fast) Farris; and nephew, Gary Farris.
