Iris Sypherd

Hastings resident, Iris Elaine Sypherd, died Monday, February 2, 2009 at Perkins Pavilion.

Services for Iris will be held Thursday, February 5, 2009; 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, both in Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2009; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and Thursday, February 5, 2009; 1 hr. prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to Perkins Pavilion 300 Wing, Good Samaritan Village.

Iris Elaine (McManigal) Sypherd, our beloved mother, went to join her sweet husband, Dale, in heaven on Monday, February 2, 2009 at the age of 85. She was born June 13, 1923 to Dean L. & Cecil G. (Graves) McManigal in Hastings, Nebraska. Iris graduated from Hastings High School in 1942. Upon receiving a teaching certificate from Hastings College, she taught in both Max and Hastings, Nebraska. She married Dale D. Sypherd on June 7, 1942 and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1994. They moved from Akron, Iowa to Hastings in 1964. After being a full time homemaker, she worked as the manager of Hested's, as a paraeduacator for Morton School and as a bookkeeper for Allen's and Red and White Trucking. She was a Sunday School teacher, a member of P.E.O. Chapter D.A., Eastern Star, the United Methodist Women and Extension Club. Iris was a masterful gardener, baker and seamstress but her love of family, joyful laugh and kindness to others is the legacy bestowed on all who knew our mother.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dale, her parents, Cecil and Dean McManigal, brothers Don and Chuck McManigal, sister Berniece McManigal and infant son, Jerry.

Iris is survived by her children , Sandy Sypherd of Columbus, Nebraska, Suzy (Tom) Boerboom of Jordan, Minnesota, Julie (Bob) Dodson and David (Dee) Sypherd, both of Hastings, Nebraska; sister , Glenda Pauley of Hastings, Nebraska; grandchildren, Rachel Rippel, Shane and Shannon McCoy, Kayla and Lindsey Sypherd. Great grandchildren, Analia, Preston, Sofia and Jayden as well as nieces and nephews .
