Irvin E. Harper, 89, a former resident of Seattle, Washington and a present resident of Hastings since April 15, 1999, died at The Kensington, Friday, December 15, 2000.
Prayer service will be Friday, December 22, 2000; 1:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Graveside service will be Friday, December 22, 2000; 2:30 P.M. Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska.
Irvin E. 'Irv' Harper was born in Campbell, Nebraska May 27, 1911 to Rolland W. & Anna (Jensen) Harper. He was baptized in the Congregation Church in Campbell. He moved with his family to a farm near Holyoke, Colorado in 1917. He attended school there until the family returned to Campbell in 1925. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1929. He was employed as a bookkeeper for a Campbell firm, returning to the farm following the death of his father on December 15, 1929. He, with his mother, continued on the farm until the tornado, May 8, 1930 destroyed most of the buildings. He enlisted in the Navy, serving on the repair ship, the U.S. Medusa from 1932-1936. He moved to Los Angeles, California to further his education and join the business world, until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, Infantry division in Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from their Officers Training Department, receiving the rank of First Lieutenant. He moved on to Ft. Ord, California for further assignments. He was assigned to Ft. Lewis Washington where he remained from 1942-1946. Returning to civilian status in Seattle, where he called home and began his banking career. On July 15, 1946, he married Betty Hamilton and she preceded him in death. Pre & post retirement, he encountered many serious illnesses. He moved to Hastings, April 15, 1999 to the home of his sisters, moving to Good Samaritan Village on June 15, 1999 and to The Kensington, June 28, 2000.
Irvin E. 'Irv' Harper was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty; an infant brother, Robert Harper and a brother, Kenneth Harper.
