Ivan Valentin

January 6, 1934 — April 13, 2019

Glenvil resident Ivan D. Valentin, 85, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019, at his home with his family by his side.

Memorial service is 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard is 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, West of Glenvil. Ivan choose cremation and there will be no visitation.  Book signing will be Tuesday, April 16, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with family present at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery.

Ivan was born on January 6, 1934, to Henry and Wilma (Hoppens) Valentin. He attended Hastings High School. Ivan served in the U.S. Army from November 8, 1954, to October 24, 1956.  He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, where he drove an Armored Personnel Carrier.

Ivan married Eileen K. Classen on February 4, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Glenvil and they celebrated 60 years of marriage. He was a lifelong farmer and was the third generation to live on the family farm. Ivan enjoyed camping, playing cards with this church buddies and friends and Saturday morning breakfasts. Most of all, he enjoyed his family, his grandkids and great-grandkids, who were all very special to him.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darold Valentin; sister, Burdette Konzak; brothers-in-law, Vern Konzak, Duane Schroeder.
