Ivan Woodard

Hastings resident, Ivan W. Woodard, 86, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska, after sustaining a fall in his home.

Services will be Monday, April 5, 2010; 1:00 P.M. at North Shore Assembly of God, Hastings with Pastor Tony Anderson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Saturday, April 3, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., Sunday, April 4, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to North Shore Assembly of God Building Fund.

Ivan was born April 27, 1923 in Decatur, Iowa to George & Pearl (Keir) Woodard. On July 27, 1951, he married June Hoy of Hastings in Tempe, Arizona. During World War II, Ivan was a member of the Untied States Navy serving as a gunner's mate on four different merchant marine ships off the coast of Africa. He served his country from December 14, 1942 until November 18, 1945. After discharge from the Navy, he moved to Hastings and gained employment at the Naval Ammunition Depot where he worked until it closed. He retired from Metz Bakery, where he was known as "Sam", after twenty years of service. He was a member of the North Shore Assembly of God Church for 58 years. He took his heavenly flight on Thursday, April 1, 2010. During the 1950's and 1960's he dedicated his service to the Sunday school bus ministry, becoming a friend to the many children he transported. He was a founding member of the church's "Keenagers" Thursday morning coffee meetings.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ivana; 4 brothers; and 6 sisters.
