Jack Dietrich

Hastings resident, Jack H. Dietrich, 90, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Private family burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Hastings or Heartland Pet Connection.

Jack was born January 26, 1923 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Jacob H. & Mary K. (Stroh) Dietrich. He attended Grand Island High School and graduated in 1941. Jack served with the U.S. Army in England and France from March 27, 1943 to December 21, 1945 during World War II and he received a purple heart for wounds he received at the Battle of St. Lo France. He also received the Good Conduct Medal. He married Mary H. Miller on February 21, 1943 at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Grand Island. Jack worked as a carrier for the Independent, as a salesman for Greenberger's Men's Store until 1951 when he joined JM McDonald Company for 32 years where he was Assistant Manager in McCook; Manager in North Platte, Omaha Benson, Fremont, and Hastings; and was the District Manager in Kansas and Nebraska. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Southern Hills Golf Course. Jack enjoyed bowling and softball, and was first baseman for the Grand Island's Pollywog Softball Team. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and golfing.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Wilson; mother-in-law, Alma R. Miller; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Phyllis & Bill Newman, Evelyn Miller, Art Trieschman, and Charles R. Hill.
