Jack Horsham

December 6, 1920 — February 8, 2010

Hastings resident, Jack D. Horsham, 89, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Friday, February 12, 2010; 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 P.M. in Crown Hill Cemetery, Madison, Nebraska. There will be a book signing on Thursday, February 11, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home, and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Hastings College, or the Elk's Lodge #159.

Mr. Horsham was born December 6, 1920 to John & Lillian (Ray) Horsham in Omaha. Jack graduated from Madison High School in 1939. He received an undergraduate Bachelors Degree in education from Hastings College in 1948, a Masters Degree in 1963 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot/instructor. On February 23, 1944 he married Clara Jean Collins in Madison. They moved to Hastings in 1946 where they made their home after an honorable discharge on December 7. Jack served as admission director at Hastings College for two years, he then joined the teaching staff of Longfellow Elementary School for ten years, and Principal of Alcott Elementary School for 19 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. He was a member of Hastings Retired Teachers, Masonic Lodge #317 A.F. & A.M., Elk's Lodge and Country Club #159, American Legion of Madison, past president of Hastings College Alumni, and past member of Queen City Kiwanis.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; and wife, Clara Jean (Collins) Horsham.
