Jim was born November 12, 1946 to Ezra and Minnie (Cafferty) Boner in Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Lohrville High School in 1965. He continued his education to receive a Junior Accounting Degree from Commercial Extension of Omaha.
Jim was married to Patricia L. Keeley of Valentine, Nebraska, in 1967. From this marriage two children, Eugene and Maureen, were born. They later divorced.
Jim was a manager of Weston Oil gas station and worked as a parts man for Mathis Equipment of Valentine for many years. He loved playing cribbage with his friends. He was involved with The Knights of Columbus in Valentine and was a volunteer fireman for a number of years.
Jim's greatest joy was his family. When Gene or Maureen and the grandchildren visited Valentine, it wouldn't be long before trips were made to numerous houses to show off the kids. He was a quiet, gentle man with a heart bigger than most.
Jim is survived by his mother, Minnie; son Gene (Carlene Springer) and grandchildren Jeremy, Brittany and Matthew; daughter Maureen (Jeff) Dreith and granddaughter Sierra; siblings Martha (Mick) Parker of Lake City, IA; Mary Elsasser of Omaha, NE; brother Kevin of Lake City, IA; Ruth (Vance) Overton of Indianola, IA; and Jean (Steve) Swenson of Osage, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his father Ezra and an infant brother, Mark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family for later designation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and Mary Lanning Health Care Hospice.
The children of James M. Boner wish to thank the staff from The Homestead Assisted Living Center, Good-Samaritan Perkins Pavilion, and Mary Lanning Healthcare, all of Hastings, for their wonderful care and support of Jim and his family.
