James Jackson, Sr

Hastings resident, James "Jim" F. Jackson, Sr., 84, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 1, 2015; 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to rosary at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Rosary will be Sunday, February 1, 2015; 7:00 P.M. and Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 2, 2015; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Jim was born on August 25, 1930 to Elmer (Joseph) and Kathleen (Sullivan) Jackson in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Lincoln Cathedral in 1948, in the Korean War, and the reserves for twelve years. On October 13, 1956, he married Julie Francis at St. Mary's Cathedral, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jim's career included positions with Jacob-North, the Lincoln Journal Star, KFOR Radio in Lincoln, and Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company (K-N Energy) in Hastings as Irrigation Manager, retiring after 30 years. During retirement he became a driver for Prince of the Road. Jim was a member of both St. Michael & St. Cecilia Catholic Churches, the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus #1123, a member of AM Sertoma Club & the Hastings Chamber of Commerce. He was a diehard STC sports fan, spending 33 years as football's "Voice of the Bluehawks". He will be remembered for his passion of STC athletics & strong devotion to watching his kids and grandkids play sports.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer (Jack) Jackson & spouse Mary Jackson, brothers-in-laws Alfons Hamersky, Wayne Murphy & Richard Irwin.
