James S. Palmer

Hastings resident James Stephen Palmer, 93, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at CHI Health – St. Francis, Grand Island, NE.    

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Burial with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. 

James was born December 1, 1930, in Franklin, NE to Ray and Altus (Lord) Palmer. He attended Hastings Public Schools. James served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. He married Shirley Gilbert on August 16, 1955, at First United Methodist Church in Hastings; she preceded him in death on December 4, 2017.

 

He led a devoted life caring and providing for his family of five. The hard work and dedication led his 48 year career as a parts manager at Kerr Chevrolet. Some of his extra hobbies included woodworking and traveling. His strong sense of responsibility and compassion for others created the perfect home throughout his life.


 
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Palmer; daughter, Kathy Sue Palmer; son-in-law, Jerome Tillemans; grandson, Justin Palmer; brothers, Charles, William, AL “Dunk”, Weldon, and Dick Palmer.
