Hastings resident, James "Jim" Nicholas Pittz, 83, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Friday, October 8, 2010; 7:00 P.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 9, 2010; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, October 7, 2010; 1:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M., Friday, October 8, 2010; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Jim was born October 19, 1926 near Juniata, Nebraska to Peter Joseph & Elizabeth Susanna (Kaiser) Pittz. He graduated from Roseland High School in 1944 and International Accounting Society in 1960. He was in the U.S. Army from 1945 through 1946 and was stationed in the South Pacific on Okinawa. On June 7, 1949 he married Elaine Consbruck in Kenesaw at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2009. He farmed in the area and also worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in the accounting area and REA. He joined the Hastings National Bank on February 1, 1956, which was later called First National and Norwest, N.A. He retired in 1984 as a cashier after 29 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Men's Club, St. Michael's Building Committee, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree- Honorary Life Member, past Treasurer of American Legion Post #11, V.F.W. Post #1346, 40 & 8, was the Secretary/Treasurer for Hastings Catholic Activities Association for 23 years, President of Service Corp of Retired Executives for 3 years, Chamber of Commerce, Water Resources Committee, Small Business Institute, Adams County Historical Society, AARP, International Accounting Society. He was also a member of the Tri-City Volkswagen Club and the Volkswagen Club of Nebraska. He and Elaine were given the Hastings Catholic Activities Association Hall of Fame Award.
James was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Elaine Pittz.
