James 'Herb' Price, 75, of 1410 Pershing Rd., died Tuesday, November 6, 2001 in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, November 9, 2001; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Matt Nieman officiating. Burial with Masonic & Military Rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
James 'Herb' Price was born October 13, 1926 in Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada to Leon Bennett & Vera (Hodgen) Price. The family moved to Atkinson, Nebraska by act of Congress to live on the family ranch south of Atkinson, Nebraska1936. Herb graduated from Atkinson High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving during WWII with the 117AGF in Livorno, Italy. After his discharge, he worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad . In 1947, he married Wihlma J. Evans. He worked for the Cornhusker Motor Club, retiring from there in 1983 and became an Independent Insurance General Agent. Herb served as Master of the Blue Lodge in 1959, Worthy Patron of Eastern Star in 1959, High Priest of Hastings Chapter, Illus Master of Hastings Council and Commander of Mt. Nebo Commandery. He was Grand Master of Cryptic Mason of Nebraska in 1978-79 and received Knight of the York Cross on Honor and later Prior of that body. He also served as Sovereign Master of Allied Masonic Degrees, Puissant Sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine, Very Imminent Preceptor of Holy Royal Arch Templars and received the Knights Templar Cross of Honor in 1994 for service to York Rite. Herb was recognized as outstanding insurance agent of the year by Continental General and Midland Ins. Company. He was listed in Who's Who on Insurance Agents International in 1982. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Tehema Shrine and the First Presbyterian Church.
