James "JW" Sidlo

Hastings resident James W. “JW” Sidlo, 79, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Bryan Medical Center-West Campus in Lincoln, NE after complications from a fall.

Rosary is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation is 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

JW was born on December 4, 1938, in Red Cloud, NE to Ralph G. & Maye C. (Saladen) Sidlo. He grew up in Blue Hill, NE and after graduating from high school JW moved to Hastings and worked for a time on a farm. He served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged. On February 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to JoAnn M. Kimminau at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Hastings, NE and had been married for 53 years; she preceded him in death on August 21, 2010.

JW was employed by Fleming Mfg. Company, Hastings Police Department, and was a plumbing salesman for a time in his life. In 1978, JW found the job that he was very passionate about as a Deputy Sheriff for Adams County in Hastings, NE. He held this job for 29 years where he later retired. JW enjoyed working on Ford tractors and loved his little poodle “Missy”.

JW was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn M. Sidlo; brothers, Jack Cummings and Gordon Sidlo; and sister, Shirley (Sidlo) Cherry.
