Janel Foote

Hastings resident, Janel T. Foote, 60, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, April 1, 2011; 10:00 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hastings with Pastor Barry Rempp officiating. Private family interment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. There will be no viewing. Visitation and book signing will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011; 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Janel T. Foote Memorial Scholarship Fund at UNMC College of Pharmacy or the T.J. Foote Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hastings College.

Janel was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25, 1950 to John & Jean (Wadsworth) Toon. She graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1968 and earned her bachelor's of Pharmacy at University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1974. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and P.E.O. Chapter G. Janel attained a Masters of Healthcare Administration from University of Colorado in 1994. In 1999 she was made a fellow of American College of Health Care Executives. She was Vice President of Marketing for NTA and flew to numerous states accumulating 3,000 hours of flight time. She then worked as the director of Pharmacy at Mary Lanning Hospital. Janel Foote was the Hastings Business and Professional Woman of the year in 1985 and 1986. Janel was awarded the Hospital Pharmacist of the Year in 1994 and UNMC Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni award in 2006. She was past president of the Nebraska Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Janel also served as the pharmacist representative on the Nebraska State Board of Health. She was an accomplished pilot and loved to fly. Janel was past president of the Nebraska chapter Ninety Nines, the international organization of female pilots. She was a member and past president of the Hastings Airport Authority and had instrument/multiengine/commercial licenses.

Janel was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gregg Johnson; grandson, Terence Joseph ("T.J.") Foote; and "brother-in-law" Joseph Kealy.

Janel married Terence K. Foote on March 21, 1970. She was a wonderful mother to Donovan (Dana) Foote, Meghan Foote (David Boyer) and Marcy (James) Foote Sorgenfrei. Her favorite and biggest passion was being GrandJan to Kristin, Avery, Lily, Jackson and Graham. She was the beloved daughter of John and Jean Toon, sister to Marcy Ruona, Jim (Jan) Toon, Brian Toon, and Jocie Johnson.
