Janice Carole Lukas, 85 of Hastings, Nebraska passed away peacefully with her family by her side, December 9, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.
Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Children’s Hospital & Medical Center of Omaha. Jan was born April 5, 1939, to Fred and Alice (Johnson) Kottwitz in Hastings, NE, and was the youngest of three girls. She graduated from Hastings High School class of 1957. Jan married James Joseph Lukas on April 28, 1963. They had two children, Jill and Jerry. In April, Jim and Jan celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Jan worked at City National Bank for 40 years, retiring in 2004. She had many cherished memories from her time in banking and made many lifelong friends. Jan also worked at Fonner Park and Queens City Downs during the racing season. She bowled in league many years and was a member of the 600 club. Her other hobbies included shopping and growing flowers and plants. Jan was a lifelong member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Her favorite role was grandmother to her five grandchildren. She loved spending time with her beloved cat, Keke.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Lukas of Hastings; daughter, Jill Diaz of Hastings; son, Jerry Lukas and his wife LeAnna of Hastings; grandchildren, Justin Lukas and his girlfriend Kimberly Kubes of Omaha, Jenna Lukas and her fiancé Reed Buettner of Omaha, Erika Diaz of Hastings, RJ Diaz of Lincoln, and Sarah Diaz of Lincoln. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Fred Kottwitz, and her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Weir John and Bonnie and Robert Lubken.
