Jan was born November 13, 1940 on the family farm near Guide Rock, Nebraska to Alfred F. & Hildred M. (Bangert) Schutte. She was baptized into the Christian faith on December 8, 1940 and reaffirmed her faith through confirmation on June 13, 1954. She graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1958. On April 23, 1960, she was united in marriage to Dallas D. Shambaugh in Rosemont, Nebraska. This marriage was blessed with four daughters. Dallas preceded her in death on August 25, 1989. In 1973, Jan began her career with Kinder Morgan (formerly known as KN Energy) assuming a variety of roles in sales, customer relations, management and remained employed until 2003 at which time she formally retired. Jan's devotion to God, family, community service and helping others was evident through all of her loving and caring acts. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, coordinating and preparing meals for the Open Table, a member of the Harvard Chamber of Commerce and Summer Fun Festival, a member of the South Central Mental Health Board, a CASA, and an advocate and friend to people less fortunate or forgotten by society. The importance of family and friends was dear to Jan's heart and nothing would bring a bigger smile to her face than to be surrounded by her 5 grandchildren. Her ability to make each one special in their own way was shown over and over and the many trips to Grandma Camp will forever remain in their hearts. The impact of Jan's life will be felt by many. Because of Jan's ability to see the importance of helping those in need, the family requests that you consider donating to the memorials in lieu of flowers.

Those with whom Jan was reunited in heaven are her parents; husband, Dallas D. Shambaugh; twin infant daughters, Patty & Pamela; sister, Mary Ann Schutte; brother, Garry Schutte; and nephew, Ben Schutte.
