Jarl Carlson

January 18, 1927 — September 21, 2009

Jarl L. Carlson, 82, of West Palm Beach, Florida and had recently moved back to Nebraska, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post #267 in Clearwater, Nebraska, on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 A.M., with a luncheon to follow, military rites will be at the Clearwater Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.. Memorials may be given to the American Legion.

Jarl was born to Sixton & Violet (McDaniel) Carlson on January 18, 1927, in Battle Creek, Nebraska. They later moved to a farm south and west of Clearwater, Nebraska. Jarl played baseball for the Neligh Antelope American Legion Jr. baseball team that was five-time state runners up. Jarl graduated from Neligh High School in 1944. Jarl served in the U.S. Army from February 1946 to April 1947. He was stationed at Station Hospital in Camp Kelner, New Jersey, as a clerk typist. While in the service, Jarl played baseball for the Camp Crowder team. Upon his discharge, he was drafted by the Omaha Cardinal Baseball Club to take spring training in Albany, Georgia. On December 25, 1950, Jarl was united in marriage to Mary Ann Olmsted, and they later divorced. Jarl was an avid golfer, collecting 11 hole-in-one trophies in his golf career. He was a baseball fan and great Nebraska football fan. Jarl was an auto and animal feed salesman. He cleaned swimming pools in Florida with his sons. He was a sky cap at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jarl enjoyed spending time with his family. Jarl was a member of the American Legion Post #267 in Clearwater, Nebraska, and The Elks in Yankton, South Dakota.

Jarl was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard.
