Hastings resident, Jean L. Aiken, 90, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Mary Lanning HealthCare.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014; 2:00 P.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska, with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. There will be no visitation or viewing. Private family burial at a later date. Memorials may be given to the John & Jean Aiken Memorial Fund at Hastings College.
Jean was born October 24, 1923 in Gurley, Nebraska to Antonius A. & Lola A. (Heizer) Larsen. She attended Homer High School in Homer, Nebraska. Jean received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and her Master's Degree in History from Columbia University, New York City. On August 3, 1947, she married John M. Aiken and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1982. She was an Instructor of Agricultural Communications, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and also taught at Central Community College - Hastings. Jean was a member of First St. Paul's Church, in Hastings, Past-President of UNL Mortar Board, Co-Founder of Hastings Literacy Council, Co-Founder of Hastings Recycling, League of Women's Voters, YWCA, and PEO Chapter DA.
Jean L. Aiken was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John M. Aiken; sister, Pat Killion; brother-in-law, Dean Killion and son-in-law, Minh Le.
