Jean Boeve

Hastings resident, Jean Boeve, 86, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Friday, February 5, 2016; 1:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Pastor Don Canady and Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to Presbyterian Women at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. Visitation will be Thursday, February 4, 2016; 1:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Jean Haverhals was born August 5, 1929 to Peter and Gertie (Kooi) Haverhals in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was raised on a farm west of Sioux Center. On November 1, 1950, Jean was joined in marriage to Allen James Boeve at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa. The couple farmed in the area four years. In 1954 they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Allen attended Calvin College. Then they moved to Holland, Michigan where he went to Western Theological Seminary. They lived in several places where Allen served churches; in 1960 they moved to Vancouver, British Columbia; Bismarck, North Dakota; 20 years in South Dakota; Jetmore, Kansas; Loup City, Nebraska; Rockville, Nebraska; Grand Island, Nebraska; and Hastings, Nebraska. Down through the years Jean always typed the church bulletins and newsletters and led many bible studies. Allen passed away on March 12, 2006.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Allen Boeve; two daughters, Audrene Kay Boeve Solomonson and Lynette Ruth Boeve; three sisters & spouses, Ann & Henry Dekkers, Grace & Pete Dekkers, and Rena & Chris Dragstra; brothers & spouses, Siebert & Fannie Haverhals and Peter & Josephine Haverhals; and brother-in-law, Melvin Bonnema.
